Me and My Naturespace

Telling us what’s in your Naturespace

At least 30% of green space in UK cities is privately owned. This means very little is known about how it supports UK wildlife and the best ways to increase its impact. This is a problem we’ve been trying to solve! We are not currently processing the data we collect, but may use it in future to further our research.

The Me and My Naturespace survey is the easiest way to tell us about all of the wildlife-friendly features you already have in your Naturespace. It provides a picture of your Naturespace right now, which, if we resume data analysis in future, we could use to answer questoins such as:

  • How many times must a wildlife action be taken, and in what size area, to make a real difference for wildlife?

  • How might different actions interact - could taking actions together have more of an impact?

You’ll only need to complete this survey once (unless you register another Naturespace). Then whenever you make changes in your space, by which we mean adding, replacing or removing wildlife-friendly features, you can just complete a quick action log to keep us up to date.

The Me and My Naturespace survey takes around 5-10 minutes to complete.

To start, please mark the location of your Naturespace on the map.

Instructions for mapping your location
To mark the location, you can search your postcode to find the right area, then move the map and zoom in to pinpoint your house and Naturespace. If you click on ‘Satellite’, you’ll see much more detail in the map. Click in the centre of your space to place a marker, then read our data policy and select the 'I Agree' and click ‘Start survey’ below the map. Make sure you click specifically on your Naturespace on the map, even if it’s very small.

Your Naturespace is where you take action for wildlife - this could be a garden, patio, balcony, allotment, communal green space or even a window box!

How your data helps wildlife
Data collected through Naturehood surveys are not currently being analysed. However, the action logs do provide feedback on the quality of the actions you have in your Naturespace. If we resume data analysis in the future your data might be used to identify the most effective ways of supporting wildlife.

How we keep your data safe
All the data that you provide will be stored securely and in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). To maximise the impact of your data we may share it with other conservation organisations and researchers, either anonymised or under legally-binding agreements that protect your anonymity. Outputs from this study will not identify you unless we ask for and obtain your permission. By selecting agree you are confirming that you are over 18 or have permission from a parent or guardian. You can withdraw from Naturehood at any time.

For more details on the research data we collect, how we use it and how you are protected please read the full policy before completing this survey. If you have questions about any aspect of Naturehood please get in touch with us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

The location of your Naturespace will not be collected by Naturehood until you let us know you’re happy with why and how we collect and store your data and click ‘Start Survey’.
